Pending Update to Android Apps

by on Apr.03, 2011, under Uncategorized

I have begun looking into the new Fragments API for android, I am the owner of quite a few android devices, including but not limited to an Original Motorola Droid, Droid 2, HTC Thunderbolt, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7inch. While I know what apps for the Honeycomb release of Android look like. I cannot help but wish i had apps on my tab like the Gmail app for Honeycomb. I’ve begun this weekend experimenting with the Fragments API, and now working to completely redesign my York County Emergency Service App to take advantage of the API.

This is just a bit of a project at the moment, Hopefully I will begin to understand this api and how to properly implement it into the York County App, in order to make it tablet friendly, and yet stay small screen friendly.

I also have requests to make a few more apps for other counties, which I will begin to pull together my sources for these counties. And they will also be like any of the recent ones, they will be posted to the Market for $1.00USD each.
These include Lebanon County Pa, Adams County Pa, Cumberland County Pa, and NYFD/NYPD. The NY app sounds like i will have some interesting sources to my access, and be able to do some really neat things that I may not even be able to do with the York County App. I also still have every intention of making the York County App notify you of departments you specify receiving a call, and automatically begin streaming. For those of you who wish we were still on the old voice dispatch system, this would be your sigh of relief. However this has temporarily taken the back burner (pun not intended) until i have time to do more research on html parsing in android.

I have also been working on converting lights and outlets in my house to the X19 powerhouse system, I developed an app specifically designed for my house, that originally is just a simple app with buttons, however it is also on my slate to have fragments implemented into this app also, with the options to select the room you are in on the right side, and then be presented with a floor plan of that room. you touch the outlet or light that you want on, and through the miracle of RF technology, and the internet, the light or outlet will turn on all from the cellphone. Then the next step is to implement dusk to dawn, and gps on mine and my wifes devices to light up the house when my wife arrives home, for her peace of mind and security. Plus lighting on the exterior of the house that does not need to be motion controlled.

So there you have it. Consider yourself updated.

Goodbye Facebook Letter

by on Jan.10, 2011, under Facebook, Personal

Dear facebook,

I have had an account with you since before you became popular among the masses, in that time I have seen you evolve into what you are today. I must say I do not like it. I have only kept you around for the past year Because you kept everyones phone numbers up to date on my phone. Because lord knows.for.some.reason some people feel the need to change phone numbers once a year if not more. recently you have allowed people to add me to their groups. Why in the world would you possibly think I want this?  I will choose my groups on my own.  Next point of business, questions.  I am tired of people I barely know, answering questions about me. Why do I need answers to questions about myself that I didn’t even know I had?  Also I do not want to know about peoples personal issues. The public internet is not the place to air your dirty laundry. I do not care about your disagreement with your spouse and if I did I would talk to you personally not where everyone else can hear it.  Facebook I liked at one time what you were however what you have become is not for me.

Dear Facebook User,
I have told you all before, I do not log on to facebook to read your status or check messages, I only use it for your phone number. Yet you choose to ignore that. You still send me messages and invites that I don’t get until after it is over or no longer pertinent.  So from here on out if you change your phone number email me, txt me, call me. If you have an event you would like me to attend email me, txt me, call me. If you have a message for me, email me, txt me, call me.

Dear Facebook Community,
Just some well needed advice,
1. When you mass mesage your friends each time someone responds everyone you mass messaged recieves they’re response.
2. Just because you think someone is interested in a group don’t include them just mesage them and tell them about the group. Don’t automatically assume that they want to be added.
3. Check out face.com you can upload a photo and track down who someone is by facial recognition.
4.If you live in york county, pennsylvania goto red lion fire co website, right on the home page click the link to the paging system, every page that goes out to the fire department personnel is available here. You do not have to give the play by  play. Pay attention to the task at hand. (this does not go out to one individual this goes out to everyone who does this.)
5. Think before you post. Come on some of us are not in high school any more.  What you post on Facebook is on the whole internet and what you think is only private between you and your friends is not. Facebook is not as secure as your bank account.  Just because you mark it private does not guarantee that it is.  So when you have it out with a friend, boy friend, girl friend, spouse or relative, everyone can see that. In reality that is your concern and the person (s) involved, not everyone in the world.  Remember what your posting today can come back and haunt you in the future. There are sites that just crawl facebook every day and archive all of the information.

With this all said I will be deleting my facebook account in 24 hours just to give you a chance to read this.

I will continue to post to twitter  http://twitter.com/countrycowboy and my personal web site. Http://www.matthewflinchbaugh.com
My email is matthew@matthewflinchbaugh.com

Goodbye Facebook
